How to Find “The Best” Model Configuration Using Simio’s Optimization and Statistical Analysis Tools

Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 11:00AM EDT (3:00 UTC)

This session will focus on how to use Simio’s experimentation tools to find “the best” model configuration for a given objective.  These tools include Subset Selection function and the OptQuest and Select Best Scenario add-ins. We will discuss the basic concepts of Ranking and Selection and demonstrate the use of these tools with a Simio model.

Partner Webinar Spotlight: SimWell

Webinar will highlight using simulation to optimize CAPEX investments

With the final Solution Series webinar of 2024 taking place this week, we know that you may be experiencing a void where a simulation-based live webinar session should be. Simio and SimWell have you covered! Our partners at SimWell are hosting “Enhancing CAPEX Decisions in Mining Through Predictive Simulation,” on November 27th @ 10AM AEST (Sydney Time).

Our hosts will cover:

  1. Understand Predictive Simulation in CAPEX Planning: You will learn how predictive simulation can be applied to test and validate potential CAPEX investments in a risk-free, virtual environment.
  2. Improve Decision-Making with Data-Driven Insights: You will explore how simulation provides data-driven insights that support more informed and strategic CAPEX decisions, reducing uncertainty and enhancing financial returns.
  3. Optimize Investment Strategies in Mining Operations: The webinar will demonstrate how simulation can be used to evaluate different investment scenarios, allowing for optimized allocation of resources in new equipment, infrastructure, and operational expansions.
  4. Align CAPEX Investments with Long-Term Strategic Goals: Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how to ensure that CAPEX investments are aligned with overarching strategic objectives, driving long-term success in mining operations.
  5. Increase ROI through Scenario Analysis: Participants will discover how scenario analysis through simulation can help identify the most profitable investment paths, leading to increased ROI and minimized risk in CAPEX decision-making.

Tips & Tricks from the Simio Team

Using a Table Column as a List

In Simio, when specifying the Resource Type as ‘Select From List’ for a given operation, users need to define the List that should be referenced when making the selection. While Lists exist as a standalone feature that can be created in Simio, list members can also be defined within a table and the ‘Table.ObjectColumn’ can become an option to choose from for ‘Select From List’. Note that the user has to manually add ‘Table.ObjectColumn’ to the List Name property because it does not appear in the dropdown or right click table reference.

Tips and Trick Picture

When using the techniques of Data-Driven Modeling, this approach may more easily scale as your datasets evolve over time. Whereas Lists will need manually updated as a system changes, the ‘Table.ObjectColumn’ will honor the contents of the column and all specified Objects will be part of the List.
