Academic Licensing Program – Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting issues with academic licenses and software installation.

Troubleshooting Suggestions

Common issues that Academic users encounter during the licensing and installation processes.

Simio is a native Windows application and does not run natively on OSX (Mac). However, Simio does run using Parallels, Fusion, or Bootcamp. More detailed information about running Simio on Macs can be found here: Running Simio on Mac/OSX.

Common reasons for Academic Grant request denials

Academic Grants are provided to faculty members/professors, professional (non-student) researchers, and IT support staff members at qualified academic institutions.  In order to approve your request, we must be able to verify your eligibility. The easiest way to do this is by providing a web link that shows your eligible position. This can be an official university page, a LinkedIn page, a Google Scholar page, a Research Gate page, etc.

Common reasons for Student license request denials

Student license requests are automatically approved if the request includes a valid Student License Claim Code (provided by your instructor) and the student email address domain matches the grant-holder’s email domain. If these conditions are not met, the request is manually reviewed and can be approved or denied. Common reasons for denial include:

  • Missing Student Claim Code
  • Non-academic email address
  • Insufficient detail in the Additional Details section. If you do not meet the automatic approval criteria, you must provide enough detail for us to verify your eligibility for a Student license. Important details include your university, college/school, and department name, your faculty instructor/advisor name, why you do not have a Student License Code, and how you plan to use the license.
  • Duplicate request – If you have already been granted a Student license, you must justify your need for an additional license (e.g., “I replaced my computer,” “I didn’t receive the license email,” “I have two computers,” etc.).

Student License Activation Problems

If you get a message saying “This license key was not recognized. Please verify you’ve entered it correctly and try again,” there are two primary causes:

  • You have entered the wrong license key by either mistyping it or by using the record identifier rather than the license key. Note that the license key has the format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX whereas the record identifier has the format ASL- XXXXXXXX-XXXXX.
  • Your virus software has incorrectly flagged our license dll – see Simio-DLL-AVResponse for details and instructions.

If neither of these solve your problem, contact us at [email protected] and include screen shots of the dialog box where you enter the license key and the resulting error dialog box.
