Simio V4 Now Available – Install Now before the September session resumes
We are pleased to bring you Simio Version 4 – our fourth major release in just over two years. Simio continues to aggressively introduce innovations that are changing the landscape of discrete event simulation and stimulating new development across the industry.
It takes 20 pages of release notes to even briefly describe what has been added. Most recently we have added features to make it much easier to build objects and make their use much more powerful. And we have added more SimBit learning aids, plus an easier way to find what you need among the rapidly growing set of SimBits. Read the complete release notes for the details.
This no-cost update is our recommended software for the 2011-2012 academic year. Contact your IT department now to get the latest Simio V4 installed on your systems.
Simio Textbooks Move to Second Edition – Supporting Simio Version 4
Currently two Simio textbooks are commercially available, both suitable for an undergraduate or graduate level Introduction to Simulation course:
- Simio and Simulation: Modeling, Analysis, Applications is a self-contained textbook teaching both simulation concepts and problem-solving with Simio product features. It includes power point slides with presentation notes for instructors, sample problems with full instructions/solutions, homework problems with selected solutions, and aids for learning Simio. The 2nd edition e-book is expected to be available by August 15 with the printed book to follow in early September.
- Simulation Modeling with SIMIO: A Workbook is an active-learning workbook that focuses heavily on simulation modeling with SIMIO. Since most of the statistical analysis and analytical issues are left as topics to be explored elsewhere, this book is particularly appropriate if you already have a favorite textbook for teaching those fundamentals. The 2nd edition has been announced, but no availability date has yet been released. You can find more publication details on the Simio Publications page.
We know you want to join the almost 400 institutions already adopting Simio, but it’s hard to find time to transition to teach something different. We understand. While we cannot make the problem go away, we can help. We have a new “one stop shop”, the Academic Quick Start, which assembles in one place everything you need to know.
- Why should you change?
- What software is available?
- What teaching materials are available?
- How can you and your teaching assistants learn Simio?
- How can you get a guaranteed 100% grant?
You can find answers to all of these questions and more at the Academic Quick Start. Yes, there is hope (and immediate help) if you want to get started soon.
We invite you to include the Student Project Repository in your course – using it as a source of ideas and inspiration for your students and perhaps a challenge to your students to get their work published there to show the world what they have done.
