SimX Ltd, Salford UK – 25 July 2012:
Hot on the heels of the delivery of the first UK aircraft from the F35 project, arguably “the future of tactical aviation” and the source of 25,000 UK jobs, the project delivers another significant benefit; new risk based software that will improve manufacturing efficiency even in the most demanding applications. ‘Risk-based Planning and Scheduling’, known as RPS and the first commercial-off-the-shelf tool of its kind, is now available in the UK for the first time from Salford based specialist SimX Ltd.
RPS grew from the 2010 ‘F35 Technical Baseline Review’ that mandated the development of improved ‘Decision Support Tools’ and instigated the Navy ManTech/Lockheed Martin project A2446 at the Applied Research Centre of Pennsylvania University. RPS uses newly developed scheduling techniques from Simio LLC, a US simulation company for which SimX Ltd is the UK Master Representative and extends traditional Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) tools to include risk filtering that accounts for the variation inevitable in all real production operations. This results in realistic schedules, early insight into risks and potential mitigation strategies that can drive more revenue at reduced cost from existing production assets.
SimX CEO, Bob Lloyd, comments; “RPS technology affords us the opportunity to extend our existing process improvement expertise into the production planning domain and its flexibility means that we can effectively apply it to client projects straight away.”
RPS is also generally applicable for any High Value Manufacturing situation and so to smooth the introduction of the technology into UK, Simio and SimX are offering special ‘pilot project’ opportunities to the first few UK companies to trial this revolutionary technology on their own production systems.
To fully appreciate the ground breaking opportunities that RPS provides, a special Preview event will be held at the Virtual Engineering Centre located at the Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus in Cheshire on September 18th 2012. The technology will be demonstrated in 3D and there will be the ample opportunity to discuss its potential applications directly with its creators.
