Topic: Automatic Generation of Simulation Models

Webinar Overview:

In a partnership between University of Minho and Bosch Car Multimedia S.A., an automatic generator of simulation models, capable of replicating the product flow, worker behavior, and the 3D visualization of future production lines was developed.

This tool aims at reducing uncertainty in the early phase of production line development (e.g. quotation), increasing the testing capability for different layouts and strategies, improving the efficiency for different demand scenarios, and improving the assessment of production capacity, worker movements, and shortage of components.

A 3D visualization is presented, capable of showing the worker movement, the product flow, a description of the task being carried out in each workstation, and the system KPIs.

This tool makes use of the SIMIO API, fetches tailored-made SIMIO Objects, and uses a custom User Interface made specifically for the task.

Moreover, two database system were implemented. One to store and synchronize the production tasks, machines, and time to produce the simulation mode. And another to save the production systems previously developed, in their various stages of development and product life cycle or client demand.

Furthermore, a new worker behavior was developed, which does not answer to entity demand, but rather to a previously defined standardized work.

This work intends to increase the use of simulation, reduce the time spent in modeling a production line, and reduce the training required to use simulation tools.
